After Sample had her second child she realized that most of her music-
making at home involved singing to her children, so it felt only natural that her next record would likely be a lullaby album. Around the same time, Carey was in the midst of two-year struggle with infertility 
after a near-fatal experience while on tour in 2010. The singers soon became very close as Sample was a steady source of support during that journey. Carey eventually had a son in 2012 (thanks to a $16,000 IVF cycle she won at a raffle!), and soon thereafter they started talking about collaborating
on Sarah's lullaby idea together. This partnership led to the desire to honor the quiet moments between parent and child, but to also acknowledge the struggle of infertility and the sometimes circuitous 
and painful road many people travel to become parents.
These are also songs of comfort and
solace for anyone, regardless of what phase of life through which one might be passing.
